Monroe Co. Correctional Facility hosts ‘family day’ to help transition back into society

Local News

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office hosted a family day Tuesday at the Monroe Correctional Facility.

The event was designed to provide support for families and individuals impacted by incarceration and prepare them for the hurdles that come with transitioning back into the community.

A resources fair was also part of the day and had a variety of business that helps with the transition back into the community.

“I really wanted people, families to know that there are a lot of resources out there to help ease the pain of a situation of dealing with a loved one who is either incarcerated or dealing with a drug and alcohol situation,” explained Dr. Tisha Smith, director of inmate drug and alcohol programming.

The event also featured Narcan training for families who may be able to use it to save the life of a loved one suffering from a drug overdose.
