Mayor Lovely Warren announced Friday Rochester’s new Director of the Emergency Communications Department, which oversees the 911 call center.

New York State Police Lt. Col. Michael Cerretto will serve as director. Cerretto has been a veteran of New York State Police for 31 years. During this time, Cerretto developed a new Cyber Incident Response Team, conducted security assessments across the state and directed a statewide counter terrorism operation.

“My three decades in law enforcement have taught me that the men and women of 911 are the unsung heroes of successful emergency response,” Lt. Col Cerretto says.” “I look forward to working in Rochester and taking an already outstanding operation to the next level of excellence.”

The Emergency Communications Department is run by the City of Rochester and Monroe County. It has handled over 1.1 million calls for police, fire and EMS services in 2017.

Lt. Col. Cerretto will start on Oct. 1, if approved by the Rochester City Council.

Warren believes Cerretto will do a phenomenal job in this new position.

“Mike’s professionalism and experience will equip him to make our first-rate 911 operation even better so the citizens who rely on 911 in time of need will be even better served,” Warren says.
