Mark Muoio announces candidacy for Rochester City Court Judge

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Mark Muoio announced his candidacy for Rochester City Court Judge on Monday. Muoio is a Democrat who is the Monroe County Legislator for District 21 and the Director of the Housing and Consumer Law Unit at the Legal Aid Society of Rochester.

Muoio has lived in the City of Rochester and worked at The Legal Aid Society since 2009. He lives with his wife, Anne, and their two children: 2-year-old June and 5-month-old Samuel.

Muoio was first elected to the County Legislator in November 2015, and he has served on the Ways & Means Committee, the Human Services Committee, and is the ranking minority member of the Agenda Charter Committee.

He's focused on encouraging transparency and ethics in county government and has been a leader in a community-wide reform effort to bring better housing code enforcement and truly affordable housing to all Rochesterians during his time in the County Legislature.

“I have always felt a tie to our city,” Muoio said. “I knew when I finished school, I wanted to find a job back home in Rochester. When I bought a house, this was the place I wanted to be.”

Muoio’s experience at The Legal Aid Society, in addition with a call from community members, led him to decide to seek this seat.

“I have seen firsthand the hardships that many in our community experience. In the past decade I have represented thousands of individuals in eviction proceedings, bankruptcies, foreclosures, and home closings.” Muoio said. “The experience of serving our neighbors during their most vulnerable times has fueled my desire to serve as a City Court Judge.”
