A Rochester man has pleaded guilty for causing the death of a 19-year-old man in June 2016.
The District Attorney’s Office says 23-year-old Luis Arroyo pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon following the death of 19-year-old Brandon Spears.
On June 12, 2016, Arroyo brought a loaded handgun to the Radisson Hotel in downtown Rochester. While on the tenth floor of the hotel, Arroyo got into a confrontation with a group of men, including Spears, and pulled out the handgun.
During the confrontation, one round was fired from the gun which ricocheted off of the ground and struck Spears in the chest, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Arroyo faces 4 to 12 years in prison for manslaughter and 8 years in prison plus five years post-release supervision for criminal possession of a weapon.
Arroyo is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 14.
