A man is facing charges in the death of an infant in Albion in 2017.

Twenty-nine-year-old Nicholas Monacelli is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.

Police responded to Beechwood Boulevard in the Village of Albion on July 28, 2017 for the report of a child with a head injury. At the scene, they found 11-month-old Damon Carter with a severe head injury.

He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Officers say their investigation found “Damon was in the care of Nicholas Monicelli and that Monacelli’s actions knowingly and recklessly endangered Damon and resulted in the subsequent injuries that Damon received.”

Further details on the death were not provided. Our team is reaching out to the district attorney for more information on what happened. It should be noted that Monicelli isn’t facing more serious charges, like manslaughter or murder, for causing the child’s death.

He was arraigned and ordered held in Orleans County Jail on $1,000 bail.
