Everardo Donoteo-Reyes, the man arrested in the case of a missing mother and child, is now facing federal charges for illegally entering the United States.
Reyes, also known as Alberto Reyes, was the boyfriend of Selena Hidalgo-Calderon. Last week, Hidalgo-Calderon and her 14-month-old son Owen were reported missing.
Selena was later found dead, wrapped in a garbage bag in a wooded area off Joy Road. Search crews have spent more than a week searching the area off Joy Road for baby Owen, but he is still missing.
We’re told Reyes admitted to moving Selena’s body — deputies say he was caught walking into the woods on May 16 with a shovel — but he has not been charged with her death at this time. Deputies said he could face more charges once the results of an autopsy are released.
Reyes is now charged with possession of a counterfeit social security card and alien registration card, and illegal re-entry after deportation.
He faces up to ten years in prison in the case on those charges.
Officials say Reyes has been deported twice in the past: from Louisiana in the fall of 2016 and from Texas in March 2017.
