A large fire appears to have destroyed a home in Lyons on Monday.
As of 4 p.m., flames at the home on Ackerman Road were out, but it appears the damage has been done.
The chief says crews were called to the home around 2:15 p.m. for the report of a fire. At the scene, they found heavy smoke with flames showing from the roof. Firefighters say it took about an hour to put out the fire with the windy weather making efforts difficult.
“There were a few challenges with the wind — wind and the cold,” said Bob Chief Darcangelis, Lyons Fire Department.
Thankfully, no one inside the home at the time of the fire, so there were no injuries. Fire crews say the homeowners were away on vacation when the fire broke out.
Chief Darcangelis says the house will likely be a total loss. The owners have been informed and are working to make it back to Lyons at some point this evening.
Crews are still working to investigate the cause of the fire.
