Family, friends and community members gathered Friday night to remember 8-year-old Jamielath Kabba, who drowned in a pool at the Residence Inn in Henrietta last month.
“That was my little sister my cousin my best friend, all in one…she just was a happy person, a genuinely happy person like no negativity inside her, outspoken, very outspoken for her age,” said Penda Camara.
Jamielath died while at a hotel with her aunt and other family members. She was underwater for 10 minutes before someone noticed she was missing, but Friday night, none of that mattered. It was about remembering the person she was.
“We just want to say this was a very tragic loss but it will always help us to pursue our dreams and help us think about life and about how we should not take life for granted,” said Camara.
Jamielath’s mom said she’s grateful for all the support.
