Members of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity were out in the community Saturday, spreading the word on the importance of voting.
Brothers of the fraternity were in the 19th Ward, distributing information on voting in general, handing out voter registration cards and collecting them where they could.
It’s part of the fraternity’s national program as an organization to make sure everyone is prepared for upcoming elections.
“If you want to have a voice in our community, if you want to have some type of opinion on anything that happens in our community, you have to vote,” says Jahmar Elliott, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. “That’s the one thing as a citizen of this country, it’s your obligation to vote and we want to make sure everyone understands no matter your political party, we want to make sure you understand that voting is your voice.”
Members of the fraternity say this is an important stepping stone to making sure our community is successful.
