The strong winds are to blame for a planeload of delays and cancellations at the airport. There’s been nearly 20 departing flights canceled Monday and a handful of arriving flights delayed during morning hours.
“We’re coming from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and we flew into Atlanta and our flight was canceled because of the wind down here,” said Morgan McMahon
Morgan and her family were in the same situation as many others in the area trying to come back home from winter break, delayed and stuck in Atlanta
“We were supposed to come in last night from Atlanta. So we had to get a room and stay overnight,” said Marlo Keogan of Lima.
There have been over a dozen of cancelations and delays throughout the day.
Airport officials say it’s up to the airlines to make the decision whether or not to cancel or delay flights.
“Buffalo airport was in the same situation. They had high winds speed and a lot of cancellations too. which came across the from the west across New York state, hitting Buffalo and Rochester and that impact not only us but a lot of hubs in the northeast,” said Andy Moore Director of Aviation at the Rochester International Airport.
For visitors, like Travion Davenport, they’ll have to spend one more day in Rochester due to his departure flight canceled and he seems ok with it.
“Better safe than sorry you know. We don’t need no plans coming out of the sky today you know what I mean,” said Davenport.
For Morgan, she’s happy to be back home and relieved she didn’t miss any school.
“Actually I was, and I was afraid of missing economics,” said McMahon
It’s recommended checking with your airline to track specific flight updates.
