Local filmmaker Chris Wilmot is chasing his creative dreams by opening a new film studio in the Rochester area.
A 7,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Henrietta will soon be the new home of Wilmot’s production company, Galaxy West Pictures.
The studio is privately financed, and will be tailored to shoot movies, television shows, and commercials. Wilmot says he’ll allow other filmmakers to use the space for their own projects.
“It’s really open to independent filmmakers from the Rochester area, or anybody from anywhere that finds the cost structure here is such that they can afford to film here, where they might not be able to afford a Toronto, or certainly not in New York City,” said Wilmot.
Wilmot plans to open the studio sometime this November. His production company’s first plan with the new site is to finish post-production on a documentary.
