A New York Times article published earlier this month got attention in our area because some said it appeared local Assemblyman Bill Nojay is framed to be the reason Donald Trump ran for President. We asked him what he thought.
Bill Nojay’s name is included in a New York Times article published earlier this month. That piece addresses a memo sent out, and ensuing meetings with, Donald Trump back in 2013 and 2014 about the possibility of him running for New York Governor.
“The New York Times story described those meetings, described some of the back and forth and described some of the factors we discussed with him about whether he should run for Governor before taking on a Presidential run in 2016,” said Nojay.
Nojay doesn’t deny distributing the memo titled “Springboard to the Presidency”. However, he says the New York Times article doesn’t address the fact it wasn’t originally intended for Mr. Trump, but was leaked. He says the article can be misleading at first read.
“It’s not that there’s anything wrong with the story,” said Nojay. “The story was factually accurate. But in the course of 10 hours of discussion you talk about a lot of things over a 3 month period in 5 separate meetings and any newspaper story or television report is only going to capture a portion of what was discussed.”
