The owner of Avon Family Dentistry, Dr. Michael Oros, has been arrested on suspicion of up-coding patients bills, charging them for more expensive crowns but providing lower-cost dental crowns.

The arrest was part of a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Attorney General Medicaid and Fraud Control Unity, The NY State Department of Financial Services Criminal Investigation Bureau, and New York State Police, as well as Avon Police Chief Gary Benedict and the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office.

Police say that Dr. Oros engaged in an up-coding scheme where he would order lower cost dental crowns, but then bill for and receive payment for higher cost crowns. It’s been alleged that this happened over a number of years.

Dr. Oros appeared at Avon Village Court before the Honorable Peter D. Piampiano.

He entered a not guilty plea, and was released without bail.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 23, 2017.
