Last minute tips for filing taxes down to the wire

Local News

CPA Dave Young stopped by News 8 to share some last minute tips if you still haven’t filed your tax return.

Young recommends double-checking your whole return, including 1099 and W-2 forms, to ensure you pick all your income and don’t miss any credits. Also make sure to check social security numbers and that you signed the return. Young also stresses the importance of double-checking your bank account information to guarantee your refund goes to the right account.

According to Young, a common credit people miss is the Child Tax Credit. Also don’t forget that you can deduct daycare costs if you have children in daycare. Charitable contributions can also be deducted.

An extension is still a viable option, but you have to file for federal and state. But remember, the extension is only for a matter of time to file, not to pay. If you owe you have to pay by the deadline.
