Just two years after he pleaded guilty to murdering his son in Seneca County, a California judge has ordered Karl Karlsen to stand trial for the death of his first wife.
According to the Union Democrat, Karlsen will stand trial for allegedly setting the fire that killed Christina Karlsen in 1991. Her death had been ruled as accidental, but the case was reopened in 2012 after Karlsen was arrested and charged with the murder of his son, Levi, in 2008.
He’s now serving time at Clinton Correctional Facility for that crime. Prosecutors say in both cases Karlsen purchased a life insurance policy on his family members before their deaths.
If convicted on this charge, he could get a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
