Local News

After six full days of jury selection, a jury has been chosen for Johnny Blackshell Jr.’s murder trial. Opening arguments are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Blackshell is charged with first and second degree murder, among other charges, for allegedly opening fire on a crowd of people outside the Boys and Girls Club on Genesee Street last August. Three people were killed, and four others were wounded.

Two others are charged with murder for their alleged role in the shooting. They will be tried after Blackshell’s trial is finished.

The prosecution expects to call anywhere from 75-85 witnesses in this trial, and it is expected to take upwards of a month.

Video recording of opening and closing statements, as well as the verdict, has been approved by Judge Douglas Randall.
