Judge Leticia Astacio, the city court judge facing new charges for an attempted gun purchase this month, was back in court Friday.
News 8 has learned Astacio is now facing new probation violations related to the incident.
Astacio was arrested in the gun case earlier this month. Deputies said she tried to buy a shotgun at two Dick’s Sporting Goods locations but was denied the purchase by staff members because they said Astacio seemed “distraught.”
However, deputies said, because Astacio is on probation following her DWI conviction in 2016, she is restricted from owning a weapon. As a result, she was charged by deputies with attempted criminal purchase or disposal of a weapon.
For that, Astacio is facing two new probation violations. But, special prosecutor Zach Mauer says she is also accused of failing to comply with mental health treatment required under probation.
Prosecutors say Astacio stopped treatment in December — against the recommendation of her doctors.
Astacio’s attorney couldn’t appear in court Friday, so the hearing was postponed until next week.
