Journalist David Cay Johnston discusses Trump tax returns

Local News

Investigative journalist David Cay Johnston, who lives in Brighton, has been making the rounds on various national networks after an appearance on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show Tuesday night.

Johnston appeared on the show after somebody sent him a summary of President Trump’s 2005 tax return. The two pages reveal little, but the big takeaway was that Trump had paid $38 million in taxes, roughly 25 percent in income tax.

Adam Chodak asked Johnston Wednesday if the returns debunk the claim that Trump hasn’t been paying his taxes.

“Donald has promoted that himself,” he said. “Remember during the debates Clinton said he hadn’t paid any taxes and he said that made him smart.”

Johnston said he’s been wearing the same clothes he was in last night- that’s how busy he’s been. To top it off, his flight home from New York City was canceled Wednesday because of weather.
