Johnny Blackshell Jr. found guilty of 1st degree murder in Genesee Street shooting

Local News

The jury has found Johnny Blackshell, Jr. guilty on three counts of first degree murder for his role in the Genesee Street shooting.

Blackshell was accused of being the shooter in last August’s shooting outside the Boys and Girls Club.

Mayor Lovely Warren and Police Chief Michael Ciminelli were on hand to hear the verdict. In a statement, Mayor Warren said, “verdict brings about a small amount of closure for the families of Raekwon, Jonah and Johnny, we know full well that the pain of their loss will not subside. We are reminded today of the commitment we made 10 months ago to continue to teach our young people to respect life, to steer them away from the streets and to continue to seek ways to build trust between residents and our police force.”

Family of Raekwon Manigault, Jonah Barely, and Johnny Johnson were relieved that the man who played a role in killing their sons was found guilty of the most serious charge.

Blackshell was also found guilty of two counts of assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Sentencing is set for July 8th. Trials for the other two men that prosecution say were in the car with him, Jalen Everett and Michael Mathis, are expected to happen later this summer.
