Officers and members of the public will gather this weekend to honor the life of a former Irondequoit police captain who died earlier this month.

Retired Captain Rich Ryan passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 12 after a long battle with brain cancer. Officers say he was surrounded by his loving family and had support from his police department. We’re told Captain Ryan served in several roles from instrutor to operations commander to K-9 handler with Irondequoit police.

Captain Ryan also spent time with state police and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

The Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, January 26 at Our Lady Queen of
Peace Church in Rochester starting at 10:30 a.m..
