UPDATE: The Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge swung closed Friday morning, forcing commuters to change the way they drive.
ORIGINAL: The Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Friday, March 31st at 9:00 a.m. The structure will remain closed to traffic for seven months and is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017.
The swing bridge, located at the north end of Irondequoit Bay, is closed annually in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard permits. The closure, which involves swinging the bridge into its storage space along the western shore of the outlet, is required to provide for unobstructed boat traffic between Irondequoit Bay and Lake Ontario.
