Not every city has it’s own natural wonder and Rochester is one of the few that have a beautiful waterfall right in the downtown area. High Falls Terrace Park has the potential to be the number one tourist destination in Rochester and this summer, projects are coming up that can help make that happen.
“It’s got a long history and it’s, in recent years been neglected so it’s really ripe for renovations,” said Lisa Baron, executive board chair Greentopia.
Greentopia’s is a not-for-profit that has many projects going on in the city. They own the water station along the side of the falls and hope to transform it in the future.
Perfect venue for a platform or some other development on top of this structure that would Connect to park. and create this viewing platform that brings you right next to falls,” said Baron.
Atyia- As part of the ongoing ROC the riverway initiative, the city is in the design phase for park and plan to announce upcoming improvements soon. They’ve released this statement,
“The ROC the Riverway is an ambitious initiative that will transform Downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods by strengthening connections to our most precious natural asset – the Genesee River. The renovation of High Falls Terrace Park builds off the 2015 High Falls Pedestrian Access Improvement Study, and also the efforts by Greentopia in the area. By renovating the park, we are creating a gateway to the Falls, creating a connection to Downtown through better signage, lighting and improvements to the St. Paul Street underpass. The park will provide access to the Brewery Line Trail South and part of the Genesee Riverway Trail system. We are thankful to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the Finger Lakes Regional Development Council and our partners in the New York State Legislature, the Genesee Brewery and Greentopia for their help in making use of this important asset, which will greatly improve the quality of life in our city, boosting our efforts to create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities.”
Another stakeholder in the park is the Genesee Brewery, we reach out to their spokesperson who told us they will have upcoming projects this summer to be announced in May. That plus the improvements to be made by the city will make for an exciting summer this year at High Falls Terrace Park.
