Hundreds of people lined up at a job fair today for a local healthcare services company, Maximus – in hopes they’ll be in on a major expansion.

When it was announced that Maximus was bringing two thousand jobs to the area, there was some confusion among potential applicants about what they would need to get those jobs and how much they would be getting paid – but Maximus says at this job fair, they’re clearing all of that up.

Latiek Debardlabon just heard about the open call center positions going into Rochester Tech Park pretty recently.

“This is my first time hearing about the job,” Debardlabon said. “So I heard about it through a social network.”

News of the healthcare company Maximus moving in broke in early July. Potential job seekers like Debardlabon jumped at the opportunity, but didn’t have many details about what was going on.

At Monroe Community College on Wednesday, Maximus cleared up some of the confusion.

“We’re on schedule at this point,” said vice president of talent acquisition Chris Carroll. “250 employees did start training this week in the Tech Park. We continue to finish the construction over there and get the facility ready.”

Carroll says the target number of jobs they’re looking to fill is 2,000 right now. The starting wage for those positions, according to Carroll, is $14 to $15 an hour.

And the jobs they’ll be hiring for?

“Customer service reps with high school diplomas, and some sort of client facing customer service experience, be it in sales or retail,” said Carroll.

Maximus was initially tight lipped to News 8 about what the details on the project were. We asked Carroll if they weren’t ready to announce the jobs.

“I would say we’ve been on schedule in the entire process, and we’re focused on the jobs we’re trying to get filed today,” he said.

By the time doors opened Wednesday at MCC, hundreds of people like Khadijah Cathey had already lined up.

“I am doing customer service right now,” Cathey said. “I have been doing customer service for a lot of years, so right now I’m trying to look for better pay and better opportunity.”

Carroll said they want the positions filled by the end of the year – and he says they’re on track.

If you missed today’s job fair, there’s another one on August 16, which will be held in the third floor gymnasium of Building 1 at the Rochester Tech Park, 789 Elmgrove Road in Gates.

That job fair will be hosted by Adecco, one of the hiring agencies helping Maximus fill the positions. For more information, visit the town of Gates website.
