Hundreds of families in Rochester will have a little something extra to be thankful for this holiday. Tuesday morning, the city held its annual Thanksgiving giveaway at First Genesis Baptist Church on Hudson Avenue.
Mayor Lovely Warren and a group of volunteers packed baskets with classic holiday food items. The mayor says Tuesday’s event is all about giving back.
“Everyone knows that Rochester has a high poverty rate,” said Mayor Warren. “We have a number of people that are in need and to be able to just give them a little bit of light and a little bit oh hope is something that we truly appreciate.”
The giveaway was started in 2010. Foods are donated by dozens of local businesses and organizations.
