A man in Henrietta caused a stir in his neighborhood with a large, homemade sign in his front yard supporting Donald Trump.
But the controversy heated up when the town told him he had to take it down.
Passerbys on Calkins Road are noticing a sign supporting Donald Trump is now gone from one man’s yard, and been replaced by a new sign calling out the Town of Henrietta.
The man who owns the house doesn’t want to be identified, but says read the sign if you’re looking for an explanation – the town of Henrietta made him take his pro-Trump message down.
Off camera, Henrietta code enforcement told News 8 that they did make him take it down, but because the sign was too large and was violating town code – not because it was supporting Donald Trump.
The man who put up the sign told us off camera that he’s received anonymous threats from neighbors, and has been called a racist. Others have been against the sign directly.
But not everyone is against him posting his beliefs.
“This is a democracy,” said one neighbor. “That’s what the Founding Fathers based our country on, is our ability to state our beliefs, and we need to do it with respect.”
Henrietta code enforcement says they went to the man’s house for two weeks, asking him to make sure the sign followed town code before they removed it.
