The Greater Rochester Quality Council will host its annual Showcase and Performance Excellence Awards on Wednesday, May 9 at Locust Hill Country Club.
Jane Shukitis, the Present and CEO for UR Medicine Home Care, and Mike Caceci, the Secretary for the Greater Rochester Quality Council, discussed GRQC’s mission and how positive changes are helping local organizations Tuesday during News 8 at Sunrise.
“Greater Rochester Quality Council is a member led organization celebrating our twenty-fifth year affiliated with the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce,” said Caceci. “What we do is we help organizations to improve their processes through opportunities for education, networking and collaboration with different organizations, and we connect them also with experts in the area of lean six sigma, quality tools, and process improvement methodologies.”
Home Care captured Greater Rochester Quality Council’s top honor, the George K. Hansen Exemplar Award for Operations Excellence in 2017. “Our focus was to be a better, smarter, high quality organization with patient centered care,” said Shukitis. “We had some broken processes. We had a lot of redundancy and waste in the way we were operating, especially our back office, and so we used lean process improvement to really transform our organization and create a patient centered model of care delivery which we then submitted to the Greater Rochester Quality Council for recognition.”
She added, “The patient really experiences a continuum of care around their needs and not centered around how we operate, but around what they need.”
Caceci explained what those who attend the GRQC Showcase and Performance Excellence Awards will have the opportunity to experience. “It’s a great opportunity to learn from organizations such as Jane’s, to network, and to celebrate the great work that organizations are doing. We have three categories – Team Excellence, Operations Excellence and Customer Excellence – so there are multiple ways that they can learn, network and celebrate if they come, plus it’s a great dinner and we’ve got a terrific keynote speaker in Terry Callanan, the Chief Quality Officer from Carestream Health.”
