Help arriving sooner for people who dial 911 in Wayne County

Local News

Help is arriving sooner for people who dial 911 in Wayne County. The system is called, Smart911, and it’s proving to be a lifesaver. Wayne County’s Operation Manager, Greg DeWolf, said since its launch back in February, more than a thousand people have signed up for the program. “If someone is able to call us from their house and they’re not able to clearly tell us that, or they’re calling us from a registered work address, we would see that pop up within that circle and then we would know the first place to go check.”

The free program allows people to signup online through its Smart911 website. It’s as simple as creating a profile, typing in your household information and any other details you want first responders to know.

“In emergencies, it’s tough, things go, time just spins out of control and it’s harder to locate the things you need. You don’t have to think about this picture, it’ll be available. The officers will be able to search on the way to the house,” said DeWolf.

The information you provide is optional. Smart911 is a private and secure system, only activating when an emergency call is made.
