Police have released the identity of the girl found dead Thursday evening in the canal at Henpeck Park in Greece.
Greece police say six-year-old Aliyah Williams appears to have drowned after falling into the canal.
Police say Williams was with family members on a canoeing trip when she went into the water. At some point, police say an adult and Williams left to go to a store. Police say, when they returned, that’s when Williams went into the water.
Chief Patrick Phelan says, “Aliyah went down to the shore to retrieve her sandals and she was out of the line of sight of the adult charged with her care at that time and it’s believed at that time that she fell into the canal unintentionally.”
The case is still under investigation.
At Henpeck Park, a candle vigil has been created remembering Williams.
