Starting next school year, students will no longer be allowed to use cell phones in class in the Greece Central School District.
The change comes as part of updates to the district’s Code of Conduct approved by the Board of Education last week.
Before, students were allowed to use cell phones in some areas, based on a color-coded system.
Now, elementary and middle school students won’t be allowed to use phones during the regular school day. High school students (grades 9 through 12) will be able to use the devices between classes, study hall and lunch.
During class, phones must be out of sight and turned off or silenced, the district adds.
