Greece couple fight cancer together

It takes some people a life time to find the kind of love Lisa and Paul Beckford share. “I love her more now than I did then,” Paul said.
The two first met in high school. “I remember seeing him walk down the hallway,” recalled Lisa. “So, I ran to the librarian and I said can you introduce us!? ” “We were destined to be soul mates from the moment the librarian introduced us,” Paul added. They began dating almost immediately until life took them in separate directions. “We moved to TX,” Lisa said. “So, we were apart for about a year and a half.” It wasn’t until Lisa’s visit back to Rochester years later when she decided to track down Paul.  Her search led her to Monroe Community College where Paul was taking his final exams. This time though, it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. “When we were dating he wore this cologne which I loved. And, he happened to go by me and I didn’t realize it. But, I smelled that cologne and I said Paul? And he turned around and said Lisa?!”
The two have been inseparable since. They now have two kids.
But recently, their love has been tested. “In July of last year, I was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer,” Lisa said. She was only 49 at the time. “It was devastating and heartbreaking to find out,” Paul said.
Then, this past April, another blow. Paul was also diagnosed with cancer. His is also stage four. It’s a rare form of abdominal cancer. “When we got the news it was unbelievable. It was like getting hit with a mack truck.”
The two are receiving chemotherapy together. Doctors have given Lisa five years to live. “I know that I will beat those odds,” she exclaimed.
Lisa and Paul pray everyday together. They said despite their diagnoses, there’s plenty to be thankful for. “I’m thankful for so much. I’m thankful for my God. I’m thankful for my family. I’m thankful for life. You have a new perspective on life,” said Lisa. “We don’t sweat things that would normally concern us before. Life is more precious. Time we spend together is more precious,” Paul explained. They’re staying positive by choice and they want their story to inspire others to do the same.
“Whatever the situation is, never lose hope.”
Never lose hope. That’s easier to do when you find their kind of love.
