Grand jury will decide on charges in deadly shooting at Rochester apartment building

Local News

A grand jury will decide on charges against a security guard who shot and killed a man at a Rochester apartment complex last week.

Police said the security guard opened fire after reports of an unruly tenant at the Cedarwood Towers on East Main Street.

Officers say the incident started in the lobby, where police say the victim, 26-year-old Bradley Thomas, was reportedly threatening people.

We’re told, when the security guard got involved, the scene moved the parking lot and became physical. Thomas was shot once in the upper body. He was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Thomas’ family told News 8 that Thomas suffered from mental health issues including severe depression and schizophrenia.

The security has not been charged by police or identified. A grand jury will hear the case and decide on whether the shooting was in self-defense or criminal.
