Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed new legislation which changes education requirements for future nurses. Proponents of the bill have said that it will improve patient care and patient outcomes.

The new law requires that registered nurses get their bachelor’s degree of higher in nursing within 10 years of the initial licensure.

The bill also requires that a commission be established to investigate and report on barriers to entry into the profession of nursing.

This bill was supported by the nursing colleges in and around Rochester, including the University of Rochester.
