Girl drowns at Residence Inn pool in Henrietta

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed an 8-year-old girl from the Rochester area died when she drowned in a pool at the Residence Inn on Jefferson Road in Henrietta at around 8:35 p.m. Saturday night.

Deputies said the victim, Jamielath Kabba, was swimming with three other children when she went underwater in the deep end. Eleven minutes later she was located.

They also said a man tried to rescue her and attempted CPR. Emergency crews responded quickly and transported her to Strong Memorial Hospital where they pronounced her dead an hour later.

Officials said they are still looking into the incident but they do not anticipate any charges to be made- as of now they said it seems to be a tragic accident.

Deputies are still investigating and reviewing surveillance footage.
