Georgia Police Department holding recruiting event in Rochester on Saturday

Local News

A police department in Georgia is raising eyebrows in Rochester by advertising recruitment efforts on multiple platforms.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is recruiting people in Rochester to be officers. They are holding a career fair at MCC on Saturday.

There are billboards, radio, and social media advertisements for the event.

News 8 asked the department why they are hoping people who live in Rochester will relocate to join their department.

“It’s an area we’ve had a lot of luck hiring police recruits from,” said Sgt. Jake Smith. “There are several at our department that are from this area. It’s a good area to find people who really want to do their job. They don’t mind leaving the cold to come to someplace where its warm.”
We also reached out the the Rochester Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for their reaction, and are awaiting their response.
