“The idea came from our CEO last year, so we’re just trying to make it a little bigger and a little better than last year,” says Mike Gaesser, who designs Genesee Brewery’s Christmas tree made of kegs.
It’s pretty hard to top last year, when the snow covered, keg made Christmas tree at Genesee Brew house was made of 300 kegs and stood at 24 feet tall, but they’re outdoing themselves, adding 100 kegs and 2 feet in height.
Gaesser tells News 8, “You always gotta go a little better. I mean, we wanted to make sure that if you didn’t see it last year, you’re going to see an even better one this year.”
It’s hard to imagine anyone in the Rochester area didn’t see last year’s tree, when it managed to make national headlines. The keg tree was featured on the Today Show, in USA Today, and was even recognized by Ripley’s Believe it or Not.
“That was wild it went to viral, it’s just one of those things where it got picked up and went al over the world, which was crazy,” Gaesser laughs.
Genesee is excited to finish the build Tuesday and light the tree with the community Thursday evening.
