Hilton High School senior Dominic Faticone was shocked by the generosity a lemonade stand fundraiser received Friday.
“We’ve had people walk up and give 100 dollar bills. It’s so unexpected,” he said.
It was set up to raise money for the families of his classmates, 18-year-old Paige Smith and Brianna Scarpulla, who were in a car accident last week on Latta Road.
Smith was killed in the crash.
“She was everyone’s best friend,” Faticone said. “She was so energetic and such a happy person.”
Scarpulla, the driver, survived but was seriously injured.
The community is now rallying around both of their families.
Hilton High School parent Shelly Bruni said her family came up with the idea for the lemonade stand, but the senior class to it a step further.
They decided to sell bracelets and t-shirts in addition to lemonade.
“Dominic came up with bracelets,” Bruni said. “Maddie came up with t-shirts and Joe has been helping out everywhere. It doesn’t take away what happened, but I’m hoping [the money] alleviates something.”
Local businesses Carbone’s and Kits Ice Cream Shop also participated. Carbone’s donated $1 from every slice of pizza sold, and Kits Ice Cream donated $1 from every sundae sold during the fundraiser.
