Three of 13 new Frederick Douglass statues, that are being placed around Rochester, were unveiled Thursday.

We were there as we saw the finished works at the Hochstein School of Music in Rochester. This project is part of a celebration of what would have been Douglass’ recognized 200th birthday.

The statues will be placed throughout Rochester at places that were significant in Douglass’s life.

Today was also the kick-off marathon reading event at local libraries.
Libraries all over the community will host readings of “Narrative of The Life of Frederick Douglass”.

Any youth who chooses to read will be given a free copy of the book.
