SENECA FALLS, NY (WROC) — A woman from East Bloomfield is facing charges after prosecutors say she had sex with a teen.

Twenty-nine-year-old Lindsey M. Halstead is charged with sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child.

Troopers say Halstead was arrested after the encounter with the 16-year-old in the Town of Seneca Falls.

Halstead was being held in Seneca County Jail ahead of arraignment in the case.

In a news release, troopers say Halstead worked as a teacher in the Waterloo school district between 2014 and February 2018. She then worked as a sub in the Midlakes school district before being fired.

In a message to parents, Midlakes says Halstead worked as a long-term substitute teacher from February 2018 until April 26, 2019.

Superintendent Matthew Sickles writes, “The School District is fully cooperating with the New York State Police and is unaware of any alleged misconduct involving Midlakes students, or any alleged misconduct occurring on our campus. However, anyone with information regarding any criminal or suspicious activity is encouraged to contact the State Police at 585-398-4100.”

It’s not clear if the victim in the case is a student.

Troopers say they are continuing to investigate and further charges could be filed. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Waterloo at (315)-539-3530.
