There’s a way to enjoy a coffee today and think about someone else – at the same time.
Foodlink and Dunkin’ Donuts are teaming up to try to eliminate hunger in the Rochester region. For every iced coffee purchased on Wednesday, $1 is donated to Foodlink.
“Foodlink provides meals for those who can’t provide meals for themselves. And we’re able to, with that dollar, provide a lot of meals,” said Sean Borromei of Dunkin Donuts. “Especially when you look at how much we raised last year and how much we intend to raise this year.”
Foodlink helps to put meals on the table for underserved families in Rochester and the surrounding counties. It also helps to stock food cupboards and soup kitchens all year through.
“While most people think of summer as a time for vacations, celebrations, it’s also a great time of need because, when school lets out, a lot of children in the area that rely on the school meals,” said Foodlink’s Mark Dwyer. “They’re not getting the school meals anymore and parents have to provide for an extra two meals per day per child. So, it’s quite a burden on a lot of families this summer.”
Rochester’s giving community is happy to help.
“I kind of wish I had bought more coffee for more people,” said Rochesterian Rachel Sheffer.
Last year this effort raised $10,000 for Foodlink. They’re hoping to top that number this year.
