John Hutchings of Healthy Edge Media discussed the health benefits of ballroom dancing with teacher Robert Kauffman of Let’s Dance Rochester Tuesday on News 8 at Sunrise.
Let’s Dance owner Marina Lisser and dance couple Ken and Susan Bracker also participated in the segment.
Kauffman said ballroom dancing can help improve cardiovascular strength and endurance, flexibility, range of motion, and it’s also a cooperative sport. Learning the steps for different dances also enhances focus and memory.
Ballroom Accessible is a local not-for-profit which focuses on expanding dance education for people traditionally excluded from dancing, including those in wheelchairs and with other mobility and healthy issues. The Ballroom Accessible Gala will be held Saturday, May 21 from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Harro East Ballroom, 155 N. Chestnut St. in Rochester.
