Friday marks the first Friday in the Lenten season, which means Catholics are abstaining from eating meat.
The Lenten season focuses on penitence, but in Rochester, Fridays become a day for fish fries. A popular location during Lenten Fridays, is Bill Gray’s.
The restaurant was busy Friday, preparing an extra 100 pounds of fresh Haddock in anticipation of the rush.
“We bread and prepare 300 pounds of haddock every single Friday,” said Melissa Mastin, Training & Developmental Specialist at Bill Gray’s. “So, we can serve it fresh to all customers.”
This Friday is the first of seven fish fry Fridays until Easter, on April 16.
Bill Gray’s says their busiest day during the Lenten season is that final Good Friday.
