A man from California booked a cross-country flight to Rochester as part of an attempt to have sex with a minor, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.
Forty-four-year-old Gabriel Murillo, of San Bernadino County, California, is charged with attempted online enticement of a minor.
Investigators say Murillo was chatting online with a person from upstate New York he believed was a 12-year-old girl. Prosecutors say he sent the “girl” — who was actually an undercover investigator, pornography and eventually booked a trip from LAX to the Greater Rochester International Airport.
But, when he arrived, he was greeted by state troopers instead.
Murillo is being held without bail. He faces at least ten years behind bars, if convicted.
