It’s graduation season, and News 8 went to a very special ceremony at the Open Door Mission in Rochester on Wednesday.
The men who graduated had spent the last 13 weeks in the Fatherhood Connection program.
Through group sessions, they learned to manage conflict and rebuild relations with their families.
“There are two key factors we talk about: being able to be vulnerable and transparent,” said Reggie Cox. “If I can be vulnerable and transparent, then I’m not just speaking my narrative but I’m helping other men unmask that stuff.”
The executive director of the program says many people who go through the program did not have strong father figures in their lives, and in some cases, survived trauma in their childhood.
