The man accused of murder for the stabbing death of a woman on North Clinton Avenue in Rochester over the weekend told the judge “I did it” as he appeared in court Monday.
Twenty-seven-year-old Ronald Pilgrim Jr. is charged with murder in the death of 23-year-old Cherylann Jackson.
Officers were called to an apartment on off North Clinton Avenue near Norton Street around 8 a.m. Saturday morning after a body was found.
At the scene, investigators found Jackson had been stabbed multiple times in the back and neck. And family members say the brutal slaying happened in front of the young mother’s three-year-old child.
Jackson’s aunt Marla Moultrie told News 8, “We are angry and we are upset. Because he did not have to do her like that. He did not. She didn’t do anything to deserve that.”
Pilgrim appeared in court Monday morning for arraignment. After the hearing, as court deputies removed Pilgrim from the courtroom, our reporter heard him scream “I did it.”
The statement by Pilgrim resulted in an emotional reaction by members of the victim’s family in court.
He is being held without bail. Defense attorneys have requested a competency hearing for Pilgrim. He will return to court next month.
