Family mourns loss of son after Penfield car crash

Local News

Yesterday, behind me was the scene of an accident. Which police said happened because a car sped off the road crashing into those trees. Now- a memorial stands in place remembering all the lives that have been lost here on Harris Road.

The parents of Paul Laune are living their worst fear. It all began Tuesday morning when one of Paul’s friends told them Paul never came to work… and there was an accident.

“On the news and see some accident and he thought it looked like his car,” said Nina Laune, Paul’s mother.

15 minutes later the police showed with the news that Paul and his friend Melody had died in a car accident on Harris Road.

“I don’t know why… I don’t know,” she cried.

The news… horribly familiar.

“Because this is our second son…in the same place he died.. 11 years ago,” explained Aleks and Nina Laune, tearfully.

Their oldest son, Andre, Paul’s older brother, died in a car accident similar to Paul’s… near the intersection of Atlantic and Harris Roads in Penfield in 2006.

And the same place yesterday my other son died. I don’t understand,” Nina Laune added.

The cause of both accidents are still unknown, something Aleks and Nina are trying to piece together.

“And If he stopped it was a big speed… if he stopped… we know nothing,” she said.

“It was 3 at night maybe he was tired or I don’t know,” added Paul’s father.

As the parents try to make sense of what happened, they hope no parent has go through a loss of a child… twice.

“For young people… they.. they are to drive responsibly,” added Aleks Laune.

The funeral for Paul Laune will be held at 5pm on Sunday at the Rochester Slavic Pentecostal Church in Spencerport.
