Family, friends hold candlelight vigil for Albion graduate and her mother

Local News
Family and friends remembered 19-year-old Rosa Lee Maldonado and her mother Friday night with a candlelight vigil.
Maldonado and her mother, Rose Maldonado, were killed Wednesday, allegedly by Rosa Lee’s 15-year-old sister.
Police said the two were found stabbed to death in their home in Limestone County, Alabama at 1 A.M.
They said the 15-year-old was trying to take her own life at that time, but is expected to recover.
Maldando’s older sister, Esmeralda Martinez, said the family is now left with more questions than answers.
“They’re just waiting to see what information they can get from what happened; to just understand what happened [and] why it happened. Why would she do something like that to her mother and her own sister?”
Friends said they never saw it coming.
“I grew up with her sister,” Morgan Rutkowski said. “That’s what gets me.”
Rutkowski said she and Rosa Lee were best friends, and spent all their time together before Rosa Lee moved to Alabama with her family about a year ago.
“We didn’t even have to do something fun to have fun,” she said.
Rutkowski said she too is now left with more questions than answers.
“It just doesn’t make sense and it’s not going to make sense,” she said.
