Delicious food, wines and craft brews are all on the menu for this year’s Fine Tastings for the Al Sigl Community of Agencies.
Sandy Wehner with the evening’s sponsor Sage Rutty, discussed the annual event and Al Sigl’s impact in our community Friday during News 8 at Noon.
“Al Sigl is an organization that has six member agencies, many of which we don’t know about until we have to draw on them ourselves,” said Wehner. “Personally, I experienced that many years ago now. My mother died suddenly, and she was the caregiver for my dad, who was an amputee. She drove him everywhere. We had to get him back on the road, so after seven years of not driving, we took him to ‘Drive On.’ That’s one of the agencies at Al Sigl. They refitted his car with hand-controls, they taught him how to drive that, and then we got him up and running again. His remaining four years were pretty incredible. He got his independence back, and for that I’m eternally grateful.”
Over 55,000 children and adults in the Rochester area benefit from services provided by Al Sigl’s member agencies. Fine Tastings has grown through the years into a major fundraiser to suppor those programs.
“It’s a very great night,” Wehner said. “It’s a lot of fun. I’ve been involved for probably about a decade now. They’ve grown from forty people to four hundred people. There are 16 different food vendors who come. It’s a food-tasting, a wine-tasting, a craft beer-tasting, silent auction and live auction. It’s got everything you could imagine. We really, really hope that people will come out and support the organization because funding is key.”
