ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — The Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School has named Dr. Angela Sims as its new president, which the school says will make her the first African American woman to lead a college in the Rochester-area.

Dr. Sims was introduced Wednesday as president.

In a news release, Dr. Sims said, “I am heartened by the fact that, in every generation, there are individuals whose life experiences remind me that God continues to call us to live in a manner that points to the divine’s ability to use us as agents to renew the church and transform the world.”

She will replace Dr. Marvin McMickle as leader of the theological college starting July 1. Dr. McMickle announced his retirement last year. During Wednesday’s conference, Mayor Warren honored Dr. McMickle with a key to the city to recognize his contributions as Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School president.

The change in president comes as the school moves from its location near Highland Park on South Goodman Street to North Goodman Street at Village Gate.
