CBS News has projected Donald Trump is the winner of the New York Republican Primary.
According to CBS exit polls, Trump gained broad support in New York, taking the majority of both men and women and both those with and without college degrees.
New York voters also say Trump is the most electable against Hillary Clinton in the general election. 56 percent of GOP voters said he had the best chance of beating her in November, versus 21 percent for Kasich and just 15 percent for Cruz.
According to CBS news, in Monroe County, Trump took 52 percent of the vote, with 27,055 votes as of 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Kasich came in at 31 percent with 16,246 votes, and Cruz trailed at 17% with 9,082 votes.
Shortly after the race was called, Trump thanked his supporters in New York and reiterated his pledge to change what he called a “rigged” nomination process.
“It’s really nice to win the delegates with the votes,” He said. “Nobody should be given delegates, which is a ticket to victory but not a fair ticket.”
CBS News has also called the Democratic primary for Hillary Clinton.
