Iconic Trumpeter and Tonight Show bandleader, Doc Severinsen, returned to Rochester Wednesday night to perform with the new Sonic Era Jazz Orchestra.
The concert celebrated the long-standing collaboration of Severinsen and Jeff Tyzik, who he performed with in 2016. The concert also marks the debut of the new 16-member Sonic Era Jazz Orchestra.
Karl Stabnau, the Managing Director for Sonic Era, said Wednesday’s performance gave Doc Severinsen a chance to get back to his roots.
“One of the things you know we’ve talked about with Doc is he’s done a lot of performances over the last couple years and he doesn’t get a chance to play his Tonight Show music which is what he is known for. His big band style playing in the orchestra you know playing with a lot of those great old bands and he was particularly excited to play with a band of this caliber which he hasn’t done in years,” said Stabnau.
Proceeds from the concert benefit Jazz 90.1 which is a non-profit public jazz radio station here in Rochester.
